Katie Holmes debuts ‘Dead Accounts’ on Broadway

A post-divorce Katie Holmes made her first curtain call Monday night for “Dead Accounts,” her newest play on Broadway. And while the critics won’t be able to officially weigh in for a while — the play, which is in previews, officially opens Nov. 29 — early reports say that her performance “earned cheers.”

“Dead Accounts” is a family comedy by “Smash” creator Theresa Rebeck, also starring Judy Greer (“Arrested Development”), and stage actors Jayne Houdyshell (Tony nominee for “Follies”) and Norbert Leo Butz (Tony Award winner for “Catch Me if You Can”). Butz stars as “a prodigal son who returns home to his Ohio family – and Katie Holmes as the skeptical sister who awaits him,” writes Playbill.
People reported that Holmes drew applause for an improvisation when a phone she was using in one scene broke, and she fixed it on the spot, punctuating her dialogue by slamming it into place. Audiences also liked a monologue she performed about Wall Street greed. This isn’t Holmes’ first time on Broadway — she made her debut in 2008, for a revival of Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” After a standing ovation for the cast, Holmes left the Music Box Theater for a rather dull commute home — with her bodyguard, she took the subway. - Washingtonpost
