Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees has woken up from a coma and is also suffering from colorectal cancer, his doctor, Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam, told the Associated Press on April 22. Gibb remains in intensive care . Dr. Thillainayagam said the singer is being treated for advanced colorectal cancer, which affects the colon or rectum, and had caught pneumonia as his immune system was weakened from grueling doses of chemotherapy and two operations. A statement was released in mid-April on the singer's official website which confirmed 62-year-old Gibb fell into a coma after contracting the pneumonia. Thillainayagam reportedly told Gibb's family on April 19 that there was a possibility that the singer would not wake up from the coma. However, Gibb is now fully conscious and able to speak. He is breathing with the help of an oxygen mask and needs intravenous feeding and antibiotics. "It is testament to Robin's extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now," Thillainayagam said in a statement posted on Gibb's official Facebook page. "Robin's wife, Dwina and son, Robin-John, his son Spencer and daughter Melissa have been at his bedside every day, talking to him and playing his favorite music to him," the statment continued. "They have been tireless in their determination never to give up on him."

Fans of the American Idol season five champion Taylor Hicks received some exciting news from the man himself during the April 19th Idol results show. Hicks will bring his winning brand of soul to the Las Vegas Strip for an eight-week residency at Bally's beginning June 26th. For five nights a week, Bally's Indigo Lounge will host the harmonica-playing blues-belter. Hicks has kept a relatively low profile throughout 2012, making the Las Vegas residency all the more significant. With his extensive touring experience prior to his 2006 Idol win, Hicks has always been at home on the road. Forty shows in Las Vegas will give existing Soul Patrol devotees a common destination to see him perform, while offering an extended opportunity for the singer to build his fan base. A statement issued by UNHCR representative Adrian Edwards said: “During a decade of service as UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Jolie has conducted more than 40 field visits around the world, becoming an expert on the phenomenon of forced displacement and a tireless advocate on their behalf. In her new role, she is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Mr. Guterres at the diplomatic level, engaging with relevant interlocutors on global displacement issues. Ms. Jolie will focus on complex emergencies and will work to facilitate lasting solutions for people displaced by conflict. High Commissioner Guterres is grateful to Ms. Jolie for accepting this role at a critical time in global displacement.
