Demi Lovato bowed out of a judges' photoshoot for X Factor USA following the reported death of her biological father Patrick.
In a picture tweeted on Saturday by the show's presenter Mario Lopez, all the judges except the 20-year-old pop star are present at a photoshoot to promote the upcoming season.
Her canceled appearance comes after Perez Hilton reported that her estranged father had passed away.
The cause of death is still unknown, but Patrick, who was estranged from both his daughters for over a decade, had battled cancer in recent years.
Representatives for Demi and Dallas did not respond for comment on Saturday.
Demi alluded to her troubled relationship with her father - who left the family when she was just a toddler - in her 2011 song For The Love Of A Daughter, off her third studio album Unbroken.
She sings about ‘family war’ and her feelings of disappointment: ‘How could you push me out of your world, lie to your flesh and your blood?’
‘It’s a very personal song,' Demi told the Daily Mail in February 2012. '“Oh father, please father, put the bottle down…” The lyrics are self-explanatory about my relationship with my estranged father whom I haven’t spoken to in five years. I wrote it when I was 16 and getting it out is like therapy.’
Patrick had reached out to Demi via the press in 2011, begging her to contact him.
'I love her so much, and I just want her to call me,' Patrick told RadarOnline in October that year. 'This is the only way I can talk to her, I try to reach her but it never works.'
Patrick, who lived alone in New Mexico, said he wanted to reconcile with his daughters and their mother Dianna, who subsequently remarried Eddie De La Garza, Demi's stepfather.
'My health isn’t what it used to be and I know my daughter loves her daddy, so please call me Demi,' he pleaded.
After Patrick told the media in 2009 that he and Demi had reconciled, the star released a statement refuting the claims.
'We are still (estranged). It’s not exactly how he made it out to be.
'It didn’t have the fairy tale ending that he portrayed. The last time I talked to him was two years ago…,' she said.
'You try to have faith in somebody, even when you’re the last person that believes in him …
'But when someone lets you down after you’ve been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don’t know what to do…
'I had to cut off all connection. It was hurting me too much.
Patrick allegedly received a call from Demi while she was in rehab in November 2010 working on 'emotional and physical issues'
'She told me she loved me, she really loves her daddy,' he told RadarOnline. “She told me she’s getting better.'
Part-Mexican, part-Italian with some Irish blood too, Demi’s early childhood was spent in Texas with her mother, sister and stepfather.
Despite her parents’ divorce and battling an eating disorder, Demi told the Daily Mail that she considers her childhood as 'happy'.
‘My stepdad provided me with an amazing childhood. I played outside like a normal kid, I rode my bike, I walked to school, but the happiest times were when I was acting.’
